With some uncertainty in our minds, we embarked on the hike towards Store Smørstabbtind. The full moon bathed the May night in brightness. Was it too bright to make the photo possible?

​

We needed to be in position precisely when the moon illuminated the mountain from behind. After a challenging start involving two left boots, broken poles, a drone crash, a malfunctioning headlamp, and non-functional radios, we found ourselves in a hurry.

​

Against the odds, we arrived just in time and managed to capture the photo. As a bonus, we experienced one of the most beautiful nights we will ever have in the mountains.

This image won the "Winter Mountain Sports" category in the international photo contest Memorial Maria Luisa 2023.
